DISNEY has bought a massive 208,000 tonne cruise liner that was destined for the scrap yard for a knocked-down price.
The sale price for the Global Dream cruise ship was reportedly £1.1billion, but Disney got it at a reduced price as the cruiser was headed to the junk yard.
The ship, currently docked in Wismar shipyard in Germany, was owned by the now-bankrupt Genting Cruise Lines – which based operations out of Hong Kong.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a northern state in Germany where the ship is docked, is reported to have lost £227million on the deal after backing up the now-bankrupt Genting Cruise Lines.
Disney said they plan to work with Meyer Werft shipbuilding company to transform the enormous cruise liner.
