He hung up his boots for the second time in 1996. Rodax was married and leaves behind two daughters. Prior to his passing, he had been suffering with illness. In a statement, Rapid Wien said: "Very sad news reached us today. "Our former player Gerhard Rodax died in a tragic accident at the age of 57 after a serious illness. "Our sincere condolences go to his bereaved family." The Austrian Football Association said: "The OFB family mourns the loss of his former striker Gerhard Rodax. "The Austrian died at the age of 57.
