Royal family to welcome South Africa with open arms as King Charles hosts first state visit

Cyril Ramaphosa, the country’s president, to be treated to a ceremonial reception, banquet, and carriage procession down The Mall

The Prince and Princess of Wales will welcome the president of South Africa to the UK next week, as the Royal family rolls out the red carpet for the first state visit of the new era.

Cyril Ramaphosa and his wife, First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe, will be the first world leaders hosted by the King and Queen Consort.

They will be treated to a white tie banquet at Buckingham Palace and the traditional carriage procession down The Mall.

They will view an exhibition of items from the Royal Collection relating to South Africa and visit Westminster Abbey, where Mr Ramaphosa will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
