Eddie Jones has been backed to go go one better and win the World Cup with England next year after the disappointment of the final defeat to South Africa in 2019
New Zealand legend Steve Hansen believes Eddie Jones has the tools to lead England to World Cup glory.
Hansen coached the All Blacks to back-to-back World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015, and will watch his old side take on the Red Rose in an enticing autumn international on Saturday. England have not faced New Zealand since dismantling them in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals.
And the resurgent All Blacks represent a huge test at a packed-out Twickenham after Jones’ side bounced back from a humbling defeat by Argentina to thrash Japan. The insipid performance against the Pumas at the start of the autumn campaign was particularly concerning for England fans. But Hansen has no doubt that the Red Rose will be contenders as the countdown to France 2023 begins.
“They certainly are,’ Hansen told the Daily Mail. “They were just about good enough to win it last time. England is a nation that has a lot of talent and can put it together on any given day. If they do that, they’re going to be hard to beat.”
