A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and Ligue 1 referee has died aged just 42.
The French refereeing association confirmed Johan Hamel’s tragic passing on Wednesday morning.
According to L’Equipe, Hamel suffered a stroke in training.
The whistler took charge of his final match as Lille drew with Rennes on November 6 and then was VAR for PSG vs Auxerre on Sunday.
He was on fourth official duty for Real Madrid’s home win over Celtic in the Champions League this season.
