George Harrison lashed out at ‘meaningless’ Oasis star in brutal rant

In the 1990s, Oasis had become one of the biggest bands in the UK. During their rise to fame, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher were very open about how heavily influenced they were by The Beatles, but their heroes eventually came back to lash out at them.In a documentary about Oasis, George Harrison made some comments about the band – and specifically, hit out at the band’s frontman. The My Sweet Lord singer confessed: “The music lacks depth, and the singer Liam is a pain.”At the time, Oasis were headlining venues such as Knebworth and Maine Road, and had spearheaded the genre of music now known as Britpop. However, Harrison reiterated that Oasis could have been better off if things were different. They mean nothing to me.”His brash thoughts about Oasis did not last, however. He ended up changing his mind about Liam and Noel – but it took almost 20 years to do so.In 2016 McCartney reminisced about the band while chatting about music with GQ. He said: “Oasis were young, fresh and writing good tunes.”However, he did have some crucial advice for the group. He noted that they made their “biggest mistake” when they started comparing themselves to another big band.READ MORE: The Beatles boss ‘tricked’ Ringo Starr out of playing a song George Harrison did not hold back (Image: GETTY)Oasis famously once said: “We’re going to be bigger than The Beatles.”McCartney responded to this: “I thought: ‘So many people have said that, and it’s the kiss of death.'”Ultimately, McCartney wanted what was best for the band.
