The Prime Minister made the comments at the first session of the G20 summit, confronting Vladimir Putin’s officials over their ongoing onslaught in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Chair of the Defence Select Committee Tobias Ellwood warned that the Russian President is currently “regrouping” ahead of a “more extreme” attack on Ukraine.He warned that Putin, following his defeat in Kherson, is “humiliated”, leaving Western leaders hugely concerned that he will “find imaginative ways to raise the stakes”.Mr Ellwood called for world leaders at the G20 not to give up and sign a deal, pushing for them to work together to “flush Russia out of Ukraine”.Russian forces retreated from Kherson earlier this week – the only regional capital to have been captured by Putin.Speaking from Odesa, Ukraine, Mr Ellwood told Sky News: “Putin is humiliated and there is huge concern he is going to go more extreme and find imaginative ways to raise the stakes.”He is currently regrouping on the other side of the Dnipro River and its so important that that message is said to the G20 as the Prime Minister has been underlying – that we don’t give up now, that we don’t sign a deal, that we don’t step back, that we flush Russia out of Ukraine.”And that’s certainly the strong message that we’re getting here – myself and the Defence Select Committee.Speaking earlier today, Mr Sunak said: “It is notable that Putin didn’t feel able to join us here. Maybe if he had, we could get on with sorting things out.”Because the single biggest difference that anyone could make is for Russia to get out of Ukraine and end this barbaric war.”The UK rejects this aggression. We will back Ukraine for as long as it takes.”Speaking about the loss of Kherson, Ukrainian military analyst Oleh Zhdanov told LBC: “The loss of Kherson will turn all those southern dreams by the Kremlin into dust.”Kherson is a key to the entire southern region, which would allow Ukraine to target key supply routes for the Russian forces.
