‘I will never give up’: Migrants determined to reach the UK as new border deal agreed

‘I’m not thinking about the dangers of the sea,’ said 23-year-old Nezamoudine from Afghanistan trying to reach his uncle in London

Braving freezing temperatures, migrants waiting to cross the English Channel by small boats on Monday said a new £63 million agreement between Britain and France would do little to deter them from trying to get to the UK.

“I just look at my goal,” said Nezamoudine, a 23-year-old from Kunduz in northeast Afghanistan, who was trying to reunite with his uncle in London.

He added: “I’m not thinking about the dangers of the sea or about the police stopping me. I’m just trying to keep my mind and body strong so I can get to the UK.”

Under the deal, Britain has agreed to pay France £63 million that will cover a 40 per cent increase in the number of officers patrolling French beaches in an attempt to stop more migrant crossings.
