A major war memorial was set on fire the day after Remembrance Sunday, leaving poppy wreaths blackened and burned.

The ‘disgusting and disrespectful’ apparent act of arson happened in Edinburgh shortly after 5am at the Stone of Remembrance outside the City Chamber, where a service took place yesterday.

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who had laid a wreath there , condemned the vandals who torched wreaths left in tribute to those who fell fighting for their country.
