He said: "A post mortem showed severe head injuries with multiple fractures. The injuries indicated the use of a heavy weapon such as an axe or spade. "Dr Jamie Robinson [Home Office pathologist] who will give evidence next week, estimated there were at least 12 separate strikes to the head.
