Ford prepares for transit to electric, emission-free vans

The Fiesta is dead. Long live the Puma. Days after Ford formally announced the demise of the Fiesta, latest figures show that the replacement as its bestselling small car is already jostling to outsell its rivals this year.

Yet even if the Puma is able to outpace the Vauxhall Corsa or Nissan Qashqai to become Britain’s new No 1, none of these models will come anywhere near to matching the sales of the nation’s single largest-selling vehicle: the Ford Transit van.

The Transit is deeply embedded in Britain’s commercial fabric. It accounts for more than a third of all light commercial vehicle sales in the UK; the 94,000 total sold last year was nearly double that of the bestselling passenger car. The company likes to
