Mum left furious over daughter’s ‘basically empty’ baguette

A mum has been left furious after her daughter sent her a picture of her school lunch showing a “basically empty” ham baguette. The Year 7 pupil started at West Monmouth School in Pontypool in September where she was served the empty looking baguette for lunch. With meals at the school costing between £2.50 and £3, the mum has been left asking “is this what my money is paying for?”She said she was “disappointed” at the standard of the lunchtime offering. And her complaint comes just days after the same school apologised for serving a pupil a tiny lunch of three potato wedges and beans. It said then a technical hitch with a new supplier led to some pupils being served side portions instead of the main meals they ordered and paid for. The baguette was ‘basically empty’ according to the mum (Image: Donna Jones)Donna Jones told how her 11-year-old daughter sent her a photograph of her lunch to complain of the small portion size.Ms Jones told Walesonline: “She sent me a picture and said ‘mum, this is my lunch’ and that there was hardly any filling in it. I thought ‘is that what my money is paying for’?”I wouldn’t serve that to my children myself. I just feel that someone couldn’t be bothered and just put a tiny bit of ham in.”Ms Jones said she was disappointed at the standard of the offering and decided to contact Torfaen County Borough Council afterwards but had not received any response to her complaint as of this week.READ MORE: Prince Philip was furious at Netflix over portrayal in The Crown The mum complained to her council (Image: Donna Jones)”I think school dinners are outsourced,” she said.”I contacted the council and said the sandwich was basically empty and that I just didn’t think it was substantial in terms of portion size.”Ms Jones added: “I told my daughter she should complain about it but I don’t think she did – she is 11 and has only just started in year seven, you know? School dinners are not cheap now and that’s what you’re paying for? I just want them to serve up a proper standard of food. If you’re paying for a baguette I would like a bit more care really.”Torfaen County Borough Council declined to comment. West Monmouth School has been approached for comment.
