Harry and Meghan should lose titles if memoir attacks royals

The majority of Brits think Prince Harry and Meghan Markle should lose their royal titles if the Duke’s forthcoming memoir attacks the Royal Family, new polling suggests. The exclusive poll by Techne for Express.co.uk found 59 percent say the couple should no longer be called the Duke and Duchess of Sussex if the tell-all book – titled Spare and out in the new year – is critical of the monarchy. In the poll of 1,625 British adults carried out from November 9-10, some 25 percent said no and 15 percent did not know. The data showed all age groups were largely united on the issue. Some 62 percent of 18-34-year-olds said the Sussexes should lose their titles if Harry’s memoir hits out at the royals, compared to 57 percent of over-64s.Meanwhile, 58 percent of Tory voters and 59 percent of Labour voters backed Harry and Meghan being stripped of their titles if Spare attacks the Royal Family.Of Remainers and Brexiteers, 60 percent and 58 percent respectively said yes to the Sussexes losing their titles if the book’s content is negative to the monarchy. With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.” Harry and Meghan are living in the US after quitting royal duties in March 2020 (Image: GETTY)It comes as Harry and Meghan are pursuing new lives away from the monarchy in California. The Duke has been embroiled in an ongoing rift with his older brother Prince William and has a troubled relationship with his father Charles.Harry last year announced he was penning his memoir with ghostwriter JR Moehringer. He said at the time: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become.”I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.”I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”
