England suffer agonising defeat to New Zealand in women’s Rugby World Cup final

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

England suffered an agonising 34-31 defeat in the final of the women’s Rugby World Cup against hosts New Zealand.

Simon Middleton’s side came into the match, watched by a record crowd of over 42,000, having won their last 30 Tests but Ayesha Leti-l’iga’s late try ultimately proved decisive for the ecstatic hosts.

The Red Rose led by two points heading into the final 10 minutes but having been forced to contend with a numerical disadvantage following the early sending off of winger Lydia Thompson, were unable to hold on and eventually succumbed to relentless Kiwi pressure.
