Russia has fully retreated its troops from the Ukrainian city of Kherson, a largely symbolic and strategic prize in the months-long war.
In a significant setback in the Kremlin’s campaign to control southern Ukraine, soldiers were moved out of the western bank of the river dividing the Kherson region.
Russia’s defence ministry confirmed today in a statement carried by Russian state news agencies that the withdrawal was completed 5am today.
No military equipment has been left behind, the ministry added.
