NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Kwasi Kwarteng told Liz Truss it would be ‘mad’ to sack him and claims that he warned her economic plans were doomed to fail.
The ex-chancellor said he told the then-prime minister to ‘slow down’ when she gave the green light to billions of pounds worth of unfunded tax cuts.
In his first interview since being sacked, Mr Kwarteng acknowledged ‘some responsibility’ for the economic mess the short-lived government created but moved to shift the blame on to the woman who hired and fired him in just 44 days.
He insisted he and Ms Truss were still ‘friends’ but admitted he had not returned a missed call from her several days ago.
