The secrets to Children’s TV company Sixteen South’s incredible success

The Belfast-based children’s TV programme maker has won more than 80 international awards since launching in 2007

Top-quality children’s programmes with relatable characters and inspiring messages are universally popular among British parents, but in the right hands, they are also winners globally.

Founded in Belfast in 2007 by Colin Williams, whose only experience of pre-school TV came from watching it with his own daughter, the Sixteen South family of three companies make, produce and distribute shows including Odo the Owl and The Coop Troop to 160 countries around the world.

In association with big-names such as Sesame Workshop, The Jim Henson Company and the BBC, it has won more than 80 International awards for its work, including a Bafta and two Emmy nominations.

Former ad executive Colin believes that an intrinsic part of his brand’s appeal among both parents and children is its distinctive Northern Irish cultural heritage.
