NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Inmates at a young offender institution found to have the highest level of violence in England and Wales used screws inserted into pens to stab victims, files show.
In one attack, a child received nine puncture wounds to his head and the top of his body after he was set upon by two other youths in a yard at HMYOI Werrington.
An ambulance was called to the institution in Staffordshire – which received an alarming inspection report in May this year – and he was taken to hospital. A screw and pen wrapped in cling film had been used to stab him ‘multiple times’, according to the logs for the year to May 2022.
Other incidents include a perpetrator using a sharpened toothbrush to inflict a 1cm gash to the back of his victim’s head.
