He was best known for his work at New Line, where he helped found the distribution arm of the production company. Variety reports he died at home in Los Angeles on November 7. Throughout his 16-year tenure with the company, he oversaw the distribution of a number of big box office hits, including The Mask, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nightmare on Elm Street, Boogie Nights and Rush Hour. Mitchell was born in Philadlephia in 1948 and went on to graduate from the same school Kobe Bryant went on to attend - Lower Merrion High School. In the peak of his career, he was instrumental in launching careers within New Line on the creative and business side of the company. Following his time at New Line, he went on to be a consultant for companies including Miramax and Yari Films. Away from the world of the film industry, Mitchell also opened a cheesesteak restaurant. In 2000, he opened South Street in Los Angeles along with his colleague Smitty Smith. The restaurant had expanded to two further destinations, but fully closed down in 2015. Among his words, he wrote: All of you who knew him will remember his deep passion for movies, his love of comedy - he was like a great home chef of stand-up -, and his love of all things Philly. "You will remember what a great friend he was. And of course, you will remember his love and devotion to his family and his decades long love affair with my amazing Aunt Judy."
