UK economy shrinks 0.2% as fears of recession loom

THE UK economy shrunk by 0.2% between July and September new figures reveal, as experts warn the country is heading for recession.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell in the last three month, official data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows.

GDP measures the value of goods and services produced in the UK.

It also estimates the size of and growth in the economy.

Monthly estimates show that GDP fell by 0.6% in September, which was affected by the bank holiday for the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
