The killer, who could not carry her own children after a hysterectomy, posted about her pregnancy repeatedly online and even held a gender reveal party for her nonexisting baby. She befriended Simmons-Hancock while she was looking for a pregnant victim, the court heard. Parker prepared for the brutal crime by watching videos on how to deliver babies preterm at 35 weeks, which is how far along Simmons-Hancock was when the attack happened. On the day of the murder, Parker told her boyfriend she would be induced to deliver the baby. Parker had stuck the child's umbilical cord in her pants, reportedly to make it look as if it was her baby. When asked why, Parker said: "I wasn't in my right mind. I was freaking out."
