The Crown fans left fuming at geographic blunder in first episode of new series

Fans of The Crown have been left seething after spotting an unfortunate spelling error in the very first episode, with a dairy tanker in one scene bearing the misspelled name of a classic seaside town

The Crown is back and with it an inevitable explosion of divided opinions. After the first episode, viewers were left more ticked off about a spelling error than they were about the depiction of the Royal family. In this opening episode, we saw Queen Elizabeth II, now portrayed by Imelda Staunton, visiting a dairy farm in the Lancashire town of Warton.

As the Queen makes her speech, eagle-eyed viewers couldn’t help but notice a spelling error on a dairy tanker parked behind her, which bore the word ‘Morecombe’. Those in the Lancashire area know Warton is about an hour’s drive away from the seaside town of Morecambe, but they’ve never heard of ‘Morecombe’.

Having initially been thrilled about the town being featured in the series, a number of fans have since taken to Twitter to voice their disgruntlement, frustrated that such an error could have made it through to the final cut.

One disappointed viewer tweeted: “First episode of The Crown, buzzing that Morecambe was mentioned… then they spelled it wrong.”
