Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is set to hand a debut to goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as he rings the chances for their Carabao Cup third round clash against Aston Villa on Thursday, according to reports. The Slovakian goalkeeper is poised to make his first appearance since joining on loan from Newcastle this summer, with David de Gea handed a rare night off.De Gea has been ever-present this season for United but the Spaniard is set for a rare rest from first-team duties following United’s 3-1 defeat to their third-round opponents, who will be confident about getting another favourable result after Unai Emery’s winning start. However, with Dubravka eager to make an impression, United are favourites for the clash.Anthony Martial is also set to return to the starting line-up in place of Cristiano Ronaldo after recovering from an Achilles problem that kept him out for several weeks. The Frenchman has scored three goals and provided two assists in just five appearances this season, with his rare start against Villa only his second in the current campaign.Ten Hag hinted the 26-year-old could start after making his return from injury in the final 20 minutes of their defeat at Villa Park on Sunday: “As you have seen, Anthony Martial, for the last 20 minutes, was back at Villa, so we are happy with that and we hope he can continue this tomorrow. He will be in the squad, we have to see, but he will have minutes, definitely, if he has recovered.”READ MORE: Man Utd plans after Antony and Dubravka signings comes to light Erik ten Hag: The Man Utd boss is set to ring the chances against Aston Villa (Image: Getty Images)According to reports on Twitter, the Dutch coach prepared to hand a third start of the season to Donny van de Beek, who has been frozen out of the first team and limited to just 154 minutes of action in all competitions this season.Van de Beek has made six appearances for the Red Devils but his cameos from the bench have often been brief, so it represents an opportunity for the Netherlands international to get some minutes under his belt.It seems as though one or two fringe players could be in contention to feature for United, with forgotten man Di’Shon Bernard one of the surprise figures included in training on Tuesday. The 22-year-old, who has not played for United since 2019, was spotted with the rest of the club’s first-team stars at Carrington and will be hoping for an unlikely outing against Villa.DON’T MISSMan Utd must avoid Maguire and Rojo World Cup repeatsMan Utd boss Ten Hag handed double injury blow for Aston Villa clashMan Utd expect Ronaldo to leave in January transfer window Martin Dubravka: The Slovakian is set for his debut (Image: Getty)
