Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira has endured a difficult start to his Arsenal career following his summer transfer from Porto – starting just once in the Premier League
Mikel Arteta believes £34million signing Fabio Vieira will become a “very good” player for Arsenal after the World Cup in Qatar.
The Gunners signed Vieira, 22, from Porto in June, but he’s started just one Premier League game this season. The midfielder has been restricted to starts in cup competitions and failed to impress in their 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Wednesday night.
Despite Vieira’s slow start, Arteta is backing him to flourish in 2023. The Arsenal manager believes the player has struggled to show his best due to a foot injury, which kept him out until September and denied him the chance to get a pre-season under his belt.
Vieira is not expected to be part of Portugal’s squad for the World Cup because he’s yet to earn his first senior cap, despite being named as the Player of the Tournament at last year’s U21 Euros. As such, the next six weeks will allow him to get up to speed.
