Not all Universal Credit claimants will get £324 cost of living boost

The second Cost of Living payment is due to land in peoples’ bank accounts this month but not everyone in receipt of Universal Credit will receive it. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed some people on benefits won’t be eligible for the Cost of Living payment and has explained why. This is sometimes called a ‘nil award’.”Reasons your Universal Credit may be reduced to £0 for an assessment period include getting more than one payment of earnings, your or your partner’s earnings go up, your or your partner’s savings go up, you start getting another benefit.”For people on Universal Credit to be eligible for the £324 they must have been entitled to a payment from DWP between August 26 and September 25 of this year. However, tens of thousands of people on Universal Credit could miss out if they are paid every four weeks rather than per calendar month.DONT MISS:Woman’s energy bills hit £400 a month amid heat pump problem [WARNING]Pensioners can get £3,000 extra income guaranteed even if they die [ALERT]Hunt and Sunak to launch £10bn pension tax blitz next week [WARNING]Savings account tops the best buy table with interest rate of 3.95% [UPDATE]One claimant, who missed out on the first cost of living payment, said it was highly unfair they had missed out because of a technical error. “I get paid every four weeks which means 13 pay days a year, therefore once a year I get paid twice in that timescale for Universal Credit, so I am not eligible for the payment because of this, not because I’ve earned more,” they told Birmingham Live.”I contacted Universal Credit and they said they couldn’t do anything, they just get told whether someone is eligible.”At the time, the DWP said: “The vast majority of existing recipients of Universal Credit will qualify for a cost of living payment but inevitably a small number will be ineligible on the qualification dates because of a change of income, earnings or other circumstance.”READ MORE: Savings account is one of top easy access savings accounts right now Budgets are being squeezed from all angles (Image: Express)Universal Credit claimants can claim 30 DWP benefits and freebies:Reduced council tax billsCapped water billsHalf price busDiscounted rail faresFree or discounted gym membershipHelp with new job costsWarm Home Discount Scheme of £140 off fuel bills£25 in Cold Weather PaymentsFree or cheap broadband from TalkTalk, Virgin Media and BTCheap BT phone callsFree prescriptions for people with zero income or those on a low incomeFree dental treatmentEye tests and discounted glassesFree school transportFree school mealsDiscounted childcare costs£150 towards school uniforms – dependent on the local authority£1,200 free cash as part of the Government’s Help to Save schemeFood vouchers for kids as part of the Healthy Start schemeMaternity grant up to £1,000Disabled Facilities Grant (up to £30,000) to make changes to a homeHomeowners can apply for up to £10,000 to pay for a boilerHomeowners can get help to pay for double glazing as part of the Green Homes SchemeUp to £300 in Winter Fuel PaymentsFree wigs or fabric support provided by the NHSFree health travel costsHelp with housing costsHelp with funeral costsBereavement support paymentsReduced court fees.
