Chelsea boss Graham Potter sent warning by Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been warned by former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel that he will quickly lose the backing of the club’s supporters if he fails to start winning matches as a matter of priority. Potter was appointed to replace Tuchel after the German coach was sacked at the start of last month and initially made a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge by losing just one of his first 10 league games in charge.Things have taken a negative turn for Chelsea in recent weeks, though, with the west Londoners having lost three of their last four matches for the first time since 2017. Back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City have ramped up the pressure on Potter to turn Chelsea’s dire form around and Tuchel has warned his successor that quick-fire changes will need to be made to justify his position as manager for the foreseeable future.”My experience in Chelsea, Paris, Dortmund and Mainz, it is about the results,” Tuchel told the Ayurvedic Healing & Beyond Podcast. “‘You can overcome one loss, a short period, but it cannot be too long otherwise nobody trusts the process no more.”To worship the process on a daily process, this is the most important. I try to be really strict and disciplined with the players, be on time, be friendly, be respectful, be ready, give your very best.”JUST IN: Tottenham boss Antonio Conte in transfer stand-off with Daniel Levy Thomas Tuchel has warned Graham Potter that he needs to start winning games at Chelsea (Image: GETTY)It remains to be seen whether Potter will be able to put things right at Chelsea over the coming months as he looks to lead the Blues to a top-four finish in the Premier League between now and the end of the season. The 47-year-old’s honeymoon period at Stamford Bridge now appears to be long gone, although he insisted earlier this week that he is in no mood to give up on the challenge at Chelsea in spite of the club’s muted recent form.”If I wanted a nice, easy life, I could have quite easily stayed at Brighton in the Premier League, signed a new contract and been absolutely okay, and I wouldn’t have had too many questions about myself, pressure, sackings or anything like that,” Potter told reporters.DON’T MISSMan Utd team news hint dropped as Ten Hag prepares to make changesErling Haaland ‘taking Spanish lessons’ as Real Madrid links persist’Harry Kane needs to go to Bayern Munich’ jokes Alan Shearer The west Londoners have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions (Image: EXPRESS)”You have to go through [disappointment]. There is discomfort and pain along the way.  If you want to do something new, in my mind, you have to fail. It’d be wrong of me to say anything else. There’s no shortcut to it in my experience.”One of the reasons to come [to Chelsea] – there were many – is it’s a fantastic football club, potentially one of the best in the world that can compete for any major trophy.”Potter has managed to win seven of his 13 matches in charge of Chelsea thus far, which works out at an average of 1.85 points per game during his short spell at the club. He will be desperate to secure a much-needed victory over Newcastle on Saturday in order to ensure the Blues go into the upcoming World Cup break in high spirits, with top-flight football set to be paused until Boxing Day after this weekend’s round of fixtures.Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport?
