Liverpool and Man Utd eyeing next Haaland despite latest admission

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly set to battle it out for the signature of Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko, who has already earned comparisons to the likes of Erling Haaland due to his meteoric rise to prominence over the last few years. Moukoko has turned plenty of heads with his prolific form since breaking through at Dortmund and is thought to have piqued the interest of a number of suitors from across Europe as a result of his impressive exploits since the beginning of the campaign. The 17-year-old has already scored six goals in all competitions for Dortmund this season and was named in the Germany squad for this year’s World Cup on Thursday morning as a welcome reward for his stunning form at club level. It seems as though Moukoko could be set for a move to the Premier League in the not-too-distant future if he continues to develop on an upward trajectory, with Liverpool and United both interested in snapping him up next summer, according to Bild.Liverpool have been credited with a strong desire to bring Moukoko to Anfield in recent weeks and could do far worse than to pursue a move for his signature, especially if they are able to snap him up without paying a transfer fee. However, the Reds will need to fend off competition from United in order to seal the deal, with the Red Devils having identified the Dortmund ace as a target in their search for a new first-choice striker.Moukoko’s current deal at Dortmund is set to expire at the end of the season as things stand and he is yet to sign a new contract at the Westfalenstadion, which could allow Liverpool or United to secure his services on a free transfer when next summer rolls around. However, the player himself has already insisted that he would be happy to stay at Dortmund for the foreseeable future when quizzed on the idea of a new contract by Sport1.JUST IN: Tottenham have two players they may need to sell after Forest defeat Youssoufa Moukoko has already drawn comparisons to the likes of Erling Haaland (Image: GETTY)”I’ve been here at Borussia Dortmund for seven years, and I feel at home here,” said Moukoko. “I know this club very well and the manager [Edin] Terzic trusts me.”Jurgen Klopp is said to have been blown away by Moukoko’s goalscoring form at Dortmund over the last few months and would  reportedly jump at the chance to bring him to Liverpool despite improving his forward line with the signing of Darwin Nunez over the summer. A move on a free transfer would almost certainly be too good an opportunity for the Reds to turn down, although it remains to be seen whether they will be able to beat United in the race to bring him to England next summer.DON’T MISSArsenal boss Mikel Arteta explains January transfer planHarry Kane alarm bells for England as Antonio Conte sparks concernsLiverpool boss Jurgen Klopp breaks silence on FSG sale after Derby win The 17-year-old is reportedly being targeted by Liverpool and United ahead of next summer (Image: EXPRESS)The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been mentioned in connection with Moukoko in recent weeks, while Manchester City are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation at Dortmund as they continue to mull over whether to join the hunt in the near future. The teenage marksman has already received high praise from none other than City talisman Haaland, who waxed lyrical over Moukoko’s qualities prior to joining the Premier League champions in pre-season.”Moukoko’s much better than I was at his age,” said Haaland. “I’ve never seen such a good 15-year-old in my life. The advantage for him is that he’s already playing for Dortmund at the age of 15. At his age, I was still playing for my home town of Bryne.”Want the latest Premier League news as we publish it on Express Sport? Join our Facebook group by clicking here
