Manchester United have included Napoli star Victor Osimhen on a shortlist of attacking targets for next summer, according to reports. The Red Devils plan to start the rebuild of their forward line ahead of the 2023-24 season and Osimhen could be central to their transfer strategy. Osimhen was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, but it became clear that he would only move to the Premier League if Cristiano Ronaldo forced his way out of the club. Ronaldo remained – much against his wishes – while Osimhen has enjoyed a successful season in Serie A. The 23-year-old is one of Europe’s brightest striker prospects, having scored nine goals in 13 appearances across all competitions this season. He struck 18 times last term. United are expecting to lose Ronaldo when his contract expires in June 2023, and will use the opportunity to reshape Erik ten Hag’s forward options. The Old Trafford hierarchy have drawn up a long and shortlist of potential targets. Helping the Nigerian’s case is that he is left-footed, with United concerned at having too many right-footed forward players. It was the same worry that prompted Ten Hag to suggest signing former Ajax winger Antony for £86million in the summer, as opposed to a much cheaper deal for someone like Cody Gakpo. Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti valued Osimhen at around £85m in the summer, but the prolific starlet has just two years remaining on his contract with the Italian giants. They could be forced to cash in on one of their prized assets very soon.DON’T MISS…Man Utd and Arsenal risk UEFA penalties after Premier League agreementNeville has ‘complete sense’ take on Glazers following Liverpool leadLiverpool tipped to hijack Gakpo transfer with Klopp being pushed Man Utd do not expect Cristiano Ronaldo to stay beyond the end of the season (Image: GETTY IMAGES)
