The injured officer - part of Essex Police's roads policing unit - had duly been deployed to a gantry between Junctions 26 and 27 which activists had attempted to scale. 'Rolling road block' Police by now have a well-drilled routine for removing the eco protesters, which sees them try to keep some of the road moving to clear it of existing traffic. This requires officers on motorbikes from the road policing unit to impose a so-called 'rolling road block' with the aim of clearing a section of the motorway by directing traffic. On Wednesday morning, as rush hour was beginning, one officer found himself unable to get out of the way of a collision between two lorries and was sent flying from his motorbike. He was taken to hospital but is not thought to have suffered serious injuries. BJ Harrington, Essex Police's chief constable, told The Telegraph he had found the news 'devastating' and said there was 'nobody responsible' for the officer's injury 'other than Just Stop Oil'. He added: "It's been a game changer today, if indeed you could describe this as a game because it is a pretty serious one. "I think it is only a matter of time before somebody gets killed.
