Burrell, who first spoke out about his experiences in June, said that he hopes to leave behind a more welcoming landscape in English rugby
Almost 100 people at Newcastle Falcons have been interviewed for the Rugby Football Union’s investigation into racism within the sport, with the report to be released “in a few weeks’ time” according to Luther Burrell.
It was the former Northampton and Newcastle centre’s testimony of abuse – in which he explained that racist “banter” had become “normalised” among team-mates and that racism was “rife” in the sport – that triggered the inquiry, which has been overseen by an independent King’s Counsel.
“The investigation is finished now but the RFU are now going into the report stage and I believe in a few weeks’ time potentially they will release something on what they believe is going on,” Burrell said ahead of facing former club Northampton with the Barbarians on November 26.
“How they decide to deal with it is up to them. For me, it is more about getting to the grass roots and academy levels so people can be authentic and respected.
