It is believed he had spent months on the frontline fighting alongside Ukrainian troops after the Russian invasion started on February 24. One of the ex-soldier's two children, revealed that he had been killed fighting in Ukraine and urged friends to donate money to help with funeral costs. One of his children wrote: 'As most people are aware my Dad Simon Lingard, (Grimmy) sadly lost his life in Ukraine on Monday 7th November. Afghan War veteran Simon Lingard, known as “Grimmy” to his friends, was killed on Monday, his family has confirmed.
