Select verified Twitter accounts will get an ‘official’ label

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Elon Musk’s Twitter is changing how verification works again, with an ‘Official’ label for select verified accounts.

In addition to the blue verification check marks that will now cost £7 a month, certain accounts including major media outlets and governments will receive a grey label to differentiate them from Twitter Blue subscribers with blue checkmarks.

The change was announced by Twitter’s early stage products executive Esther Crawford said on Tuesday.

Crawford also confirmed that the revamped Twitter Blue subscription product, which will allow paid users to have blue check marks on their accounts, will not actually verify users’ identities.
