US Senate’s hold to be confirmed ‘in weeks’ as Georgia results delayed

While the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of the US Congress, has been all but won by the Republicans in Joe Biden’s first midterm elections, control of the Senate, the upper chamber, could remain unknown for ‘days, even weeks’, a pollster has claimed. Dr Frank Luntz, a US-based pollster and strategist, said the Republicans, despite what is a ‘strong victory’, could be left disappointed after nation-wide balloting failed to provide the ‘red tsunami’ of rightwing support that the GOP had expected. Results in the Georgian Senate race, a crucial seat in the campaign for control of the upper chamber of Congress, remains in the balance as both candidates have failed to reach the minimum threshold of 50 percent support, while the two other crucial seats appear to be heading to the Democrats. Dr Luntz said: ‘As people wake up this morning, there are going to be a lot of Democrats who say ‘Oh my god, we survived’. ‘The Republicans win the House and that is a big blow for Joe Biden. Whether the Republicans take the Senate, we are not going to know for days, and it may even be weeks depending on what happens in Georgia. ‘The House is secure in Republican hands but that is not a red wave, it is not a red tsunami. It is a strong victory, it is a successful victory. ‘But there are a lot of Democrats who think it could have been a lot worse and a lot of Republicans who will be very disappointed in a few hours.’  Democrat Senator Raphael Warnock fails to secure 50% of Georgian support (Image: GETTY ) Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker told supporters he fully expects to win in Georgia (Image: GETTY )Control of Congress hung in the balance early Wednesday as Democrats showed surprising strength, defeating Republicans in a series of competitive races and defying expectations that high inflation and President Joe Biden’s low approval ratings would drag the party down.In the most heartening news for Democrats, John Fetterman flipped a Republican-controlled Senate seat that is key to the party’s hopes of maintaining control of the chamber. But it is too early to call critical Senate seats in Wisconsin, Nevada, Georgia and Arizona that could determine the majority. The Senate race in Georgia between Republican Herschel Walker and the incumbent Democrat, Senator Raphael Warnock looks set to head to a runoff election on December 6 after inconclusive balloting during Tuesday’s midterms. READ MORE: Trailblazers make it to Congress in a power-packed US mid term poll  Dr Frank Luntz, a US-based pollster and strategist, said the Republicans would be disappointed (Image: GB NEWS )Neither candidate has received more than 50 percent of the votes required by law to secure a victory, with Mr Walker holding 48.5 percent of the vote and Senator Warnock with 49.4 percent of the vote. Roughly 95 percent of the vote has been counted at the time of writing. The Georgian seat is likely to prove vital to the Republican push for control of the Senate as it looks like they will have to win two out of the three seats in the states of Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada.Last week, FiveThirtyEight, the opinion poll analysis website, predicted that if the Georgia race were to go to a runoff, Mr Walker would have about a 68 percent chance of winning. In Arizona, incumbent Senator Mark Kelly of the Democrats leads his Republican opposition, the Trump-endorsed Blake Masters, by nine percentage points with 62 percent of the vote counted. Senator Kelly currently has 53.4 percent of the vote to Mr Masters’ 44.4 percent. DON’T MISS: Ron DeSantis delivers ‘grateful’ victory speech [REVEAL] Trump warns DeSantis against running in 2024 [REPORT] Mississippi election websites attacked by Russian hackers [REVEAL]  Catherine Cortez Masto holds just a 1.5 percent advantage over her Republican rival in Nevada (Image: GETTY )In Nevada, the Democrat Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, whose position is vulnerable, holds just a 1.5 percent advantage over her Republican rival Adam Laxalt, a former attorney general who helped lead Mr Trump’s efforts to overturn the state’s presidential election results in 2020.With nearly 70 percent of the vote counted, Senator Cortez Masto has 48.93 percent of the ballots, under the required 50 percent threshold for a victory, while Mr Laxalt has 48.2 percent. Democrats also were successful in governors’ races, winning in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania – battlegrounds critical to Biden’s 2020 win over former President Donald Trump. But Republicans held on to governors’ mansions in Florida, Texas and Georgia, another battleground state Biden narrowly won two years ago.READ NEXT: Meghan Markle shares ‘I voted’ sticker on day of midtermsNigel Farage calls Kari Lake ‘future of Republican Party’ Insiders warn Trump’s ‘protest’ call is ‘strategic’ play ahead of 2024Nigel Farage confident ‘without a doubt’ Trump will run in 2024Donald Trump demands voters protest as he claims election fraud again
