First-ever Gen Z candidate elected to Congress after winning Democrat nomination in Florida

The activist, 25, who made his name disrupting Ron DeSantis interview with anti-gun statements, won the Democratic nomination in Florida

A 25-year-old candidate has won the Democratic nomination in Florida’s 10th Congressional District becoming the first from Generation Z to be elected to Congress.

After his win, Maxwell Frost said: “We made history for Floridians, for Gen Z, and for everyone who believes we deserve a better future.”

Mr Frost backs the policies of his party’s left wing that appeal to young voters: Universal health care, expanding the Supreme Court, climate change and abortion rights.

His background is in activism, including collaborating with the student-led anti-gun-violence movement March for Our Lives, beginning after the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012.
