Marjorie Taylor Greene wins re-election as Republicans make early gains in Midterms

All 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 36 Governorships up for grabs

Republican firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene is leading a red wave across America in the bitterly contested midterm elections which will dictate the terms of the rest of Joe Biden’s first term in office.

The top Trump ally easily won her Georgia district seat to get back into Congress, where she will likely be given a prominent role by her party if they take control of both chambers.

All 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 36 Governorships up for grabs. Democrats currently hold wafer-thin majorities in both houses of Congress, but if the Republicans take over, they will be able to block much of what Mr Biden and the Democrats aim to achieve until the next election in 2024.

Early in the evening, three new senators were elected: Democrat Peter Welch of Vermont and Republicans Katie Britt of Alabama and Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. All three will replace retiring senators. Republican rising star Tim Scott was re-elected in South Carolina.
