British journalists warned of ‘credible threat’ from Iran

British-Iranian journalists have been warned of a ‘credible threat’ to their lives posed by a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces. Television channel Iran International said it was ‘shocked and deeply concerned’ by the risks faced by its staff.Police have told journalists based in the UK the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been deployed to murder them, according to Harrow East MP Bob Blackman.He told the Commons: ‘British-Iranian reporters who are now sited in the UK have been issued with credible threats by the police that the IRGC threatens their lives.’Iran International, an independent UK-based Farsi-language news channel which employs two journalists whose heads are understood to have been marked, added that the Metropolitan Police had confirmed the threats were legitimate.It said in a statement: ‘Two of our British-Iranian journalists have, in recent days, been notified of an increase in the threats to them. (Image: Getty)”The UK Met Police have now formally notified both journalists that these threats represent an imminent and significant risk to their lives and those of their families.’The channel said it was ‘shocked and deeply concerned by the credible threats to life its Iranian-British journalists have received from the IRGC’.Other members of its staff had, it added, ‘also been informed directly’ by the Metropolitan Police of ‘separate threats’.The journalists have not been identified for security reasons.READ MORE: Police detective trolled on social media by sexist comments Ali Khamenei.
