A trio of French skydivers has claimed a new record for a flight in wingsuits that skimmed the summit of Mont Blanc and hurtled over ridges and through crevasses into the Chamonix valley.
Fred Fugen, a 43-year-old pioneer of the extreme sport, led Vincent Cotte and Aurelien Chatard out of a helicopter over the 4,810m (15,780ft) peak, streaking low over the snow-covered summit then steering a breathtaking path along the north face across glaciers, ridges and rock, all captured on camera.
The flight, lasting three minutes and 20 seconds, ended with the team parachuting safely into the lush green forest of the Chamonix valley. They descended 3,650m (11,975ft) and covered 4.7 miles over the ground. The trio said that it was the longest recorded flight
