Can you do every skincare step for under a tenner?

I recently got called out on social media. I made the rookie error of making a claim without backing it up – and the two words that everyone dreads came flooding in: fake news. What had I said that caused such a stir? My controversial statement read as follows: “You can get every skincare step at an affordable price these days.” (You weren’t expecting that, were you?) The shock! The confusion! People quite simply couldn’t believe it. “Inexpensive retinol? Affordable eye cream? Prove it!” they typed at me furiously.

So today I’m clearing my name and showing people that I mean what I say. I’ve created my very own Sarah’s BeautyMarket Sweep and I’ve built an entire regime with products that cost no more than £10 each. Are you ready? Let the BeautyMarket Sweep begin.

Cleanser Easy-peasy: head straight to the Superdrug Me+ range. The Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser (£8; superdrug.com) is a gentle cleansing step that gets rid of daily grime and leaves skin feeling hydrated. Remember this is a wash-off step so no chichi frills required. I’m also a huge fan of the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (£10; superdrug.com). It comes highly recommended by skin experts for strengthening the skin barrier and lifting off stubborn make-up. (A secret tip: it’s available on Cult Beauty for £8.)

Vitamin CThings get trickier here, as this is your “treat” step, when you’re looking for active ingredients that treat a skin issue such as pigmentation, redness, dullness and so on. I don’t need to hesitate though, as I’ve got Garnier Vitamin C Brightening Serum (£8; boots.com) up my sleeve. It’s a real all-rounder (just look at that shopping list of ingredients on the label) and, crucially, it sits seamlessly under make-up.

Moisturiser Flicks hair nonchalantly here. Your moisturiser has a very simple job: to moisturise. Just make sure it’s not too rich (read greasy) as that will interfere with how long your make-up lasts. You’re in safe hands with Revolution Skincare Hydration Boost Lightweight Hydrating Gel Cream (£8; revolutionbeauty.com).
