Americans want Truss-style tax cuts according to new poll

The Democrats look set to be handed a major defeat at the polls in the crucial midterm elections as Americans make clear they want Liz Truss style tax cuts. According to exclusive polling from the Washington DC based Democracy Institute, 62 percent of Americans want Joe Biden to push through income tax cuts as austerity begins to bite.Just 36 percent disagree with income tax cuts with many Americans apparently approving of former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’ ill-fated mini-budget which delivered billions in tax cuts to spur economic growth.The poll also revealed that 51 percent of the 1,500 likely voters asked disagreed with Joe Biden’s criticism of Ms Truss’ mini-budget while only 43 percent agreed with him.It comes as economic issues account for 50 percent of the top concerns of American voters as they head to the polls on Tuesday – 33 percent inflation and 17 percent the economy and jobs.According to projections the Republicans are expected to win big, taking as many as 265 seats in the House of Representatives up from 212 now.They also look set to win at least 54 of the 100 seats in the Senate.Patrick Basham, director of the Democracy Institute, said: “Biden’s criticism of Truss’ would be economic policies is that most Americans rather like the idea of tax cuts outside the core leftwing wealthy Democrats.”They disagree with the core of Biden’s argument that the tax cuts are wrong.”Also there is some reluctance in some part of the electorate for America to stick its fingers into an ally’s pie.”FOLLOW BELOW FOR LIVE UPDATES Americans want Liz Truss style tax cuts according to a new poll (Image: GETTY)
