LOCALS are up in arms about a council’s plans to close a main road for an entire year, saying it will bring noise and traffic chaos.
On an average day, driving the mile from Oxford’s ring-road down Botley Road to the city centre can take 30 minutes and residents say it is even worse at weekends.
And locals shudder to think what will happen next year when the road will stop at the railway bridge to allow for major work on Oxford’s railway station.
“It will be chaos,” said Andrew Josseph, 93, who works at the Westgate Hotel which sits right next to the station.
“The traffic is terrible, absolutely disgusting and when this road closes it will make life even worse for those on the other roads going to the city centre.
