M25 closed as rush hour traffic at standstill

Protestors have climbed across gantrys at a number of locations across one of the nation’s busiest motorways despite a High Court order that’s in place

Rush hour traffic has been brought to a standstill on the M25 after protestors have climbed onto gantries across at least six different locations, a campaign group says.

Activists from Just Stop Oil have climbed onto overhead gantries with police having to halt traffic on both clockwise and anti-clockwise carriagways.

Matt Twist, Assistant Commissioner at the Met Police, says the force has reports of up to nine junctions on the M25 where activists are trying to cause “serious, unlawful and unreasonable disruption”.

Officers from across the south east have swarmed the scene and are dealing with the incident, he added.
