Annoying as it is to admit it, we have the Americans to thank for many of our modern social trends: aerobics, the Atkins diet, dating apps, Botox, butt lifts, the list goes on. What starts across the pond is inevitably adopted by eager beaver Brits 18 months later. And us, what have we given them? Does their recent fondness for using one of our most cherished words at every opportunity – the exquisitely savage but satisfying one that starts with a c and ends with a t – count?
