Cristiano Ronaldo nears Manchester United exit as Erik ten Hag eyes replacement

RB Salzburg teenager Benjamin Sesko may be the man to replace Portuguese veteran

Manchester United are preparing for life without Cristiano Ronaldo by prioritising a striker as their next major first-team signing, with RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko high on their list of targets.

Erik ten Hag has welcomed Ronaldo back into his team for three consecutive starts since he was dropped for refusing to come on as a substitute for the final minutes of the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

But with eight months left on his contract at Old Trafford and the 37-year-old open to leaving, United are looking at their options for a No 9 having backed Ten Hag with successful signings at the heart of his defence and bolstering the Dutch coach’s midfield.

Finding a striker is the next part of Ten Hag’s re-build at United with Sesko, 19, on the club’s radar since breaking into his Austrian club’s first team last season and reaching double figures for goals in his first full campaign.
