Kate and Prince William want ‘more bang for their buck’

Kate and Prince William visited the seaside town of Scarborough on Thursday to launch funding to support young people’s mental health. The Prince of Wales described how providing services throughout the community and talking are “crucial” in dealing with the “mental health issues that many, many people face”. But their visit was a “significant moment” for the royals, royal correspondent Richard Palmer has claimed.Speaking to Pandora Forsyth on the Daily Express’ royal roundup, he said: “William and Kate in particular, people see them as light relief from all the doom and gloom.”They want nice, jolly, fluffy picture-led stories of them and here is something really serious that they’re doing and it took a bit of persuading to get stuff in the paper.”We did cover it and other papers have covered it in varying different ways.”I think this is quite a significant moment because I think they were working on this idea before they became Prince and Princess of Wales.READ MORE: Prince Harry lost battle to ‘change’ book in clash with ghostwriter Kate and William have pushed their mental health initiative even further with a new PR strategy (Image: GETTY) Kate and Prince William visited the seaside town of Scarborough on Thursday (Image: Getty)”They want to get more for their buck in terms of publishers.”It’s clear that there are fewer working royals than there used to be and they’re not going to get around as many charities as they used to get around.”This couple and the King want the Royal Family to be more than something which turns up, cuts a ribbon and speaks to people.”They want to go to a place every few months that has particular issues.”The royal couple took time to talk to the small crowds that had greeted them at the two community centres they visited on Thursday.Kate gingerly navigated soft ground in lofty heels to get to well-wishers at the first venue, The Street, which is a community hub supporting local organisations to grow and develop their services. They toured the building as The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales in collaboration with Two Ridings Community Foundation announced £345,000 worth of funding they had facilitated from donors to help support young people’s mental health in Scarborough. After the tour, William told the donors, volunteers and centre-users: “We heard a lot upstairs about mental health priorities, safe spaces, places to go for young people after schools and food, these are particularly keen issues that seem to be resonating through the community today.DON’T MISSKing ‘routinely reduced to tears’ by Philip as royal ‘felt abandoned’ [INSIGHT]Meghan and Harry warned to ‘get story together’ ahead of book release [ANALYSIS]Anne ‘called up from bench’ to spare Harry ‘indignity of losing title’ [VIDEO] Their visit was a “significant moment” for the royals (Image: Getty)”I think, particularly on the mental health side of things, tackling that stigma, talking about mental health and providing services throughout the community are crucial to how we go forwards and deal with mental health issues that many, many people face.”The couple met with the grant panel of young people who have decided how the money should be allocated and representatives of some of the community groups that will benefit. He thanked those involved in the collaboration between The Royal Foundation and the Two Ridings Community Foundation, as well as all those who had donated.William said: “Showing what can be done when a community comes together collaboratively is really something we’d like to follow on and be represented more widely across the country.”You’re leading where I hope others will follow.”
