Everyone has a ‘date from hell’ story. Well, this is mine.
I was 29 and sitting at a bar in Melbourne, Australia, waiting for a friend to turn up.
The year was 2006: a time when, if someone mentioned ‘Tinder’, they were most likely starting a fire – although online dating was around, it wasn’t mainstream like it is today.
If you wanted to meet someone you had to go to a place where people mingled like bars, nightclubs, or depending on your age, bingo events.
