July and August were quite the couple of months for Argentina this year as the Pumas claimed a dramatic 2-1 series victory over Scotland before upsetting both Australia and New Zealand in the Rugby Championship. Under the experienced lead of Michael Cheika their performances were suggestive of a side ditching their recent underdog status, of a side building a nice head of steam before next year’s World Cup.
Tactically, Gonzalo Bertranou sets the tempo for their settled back line, Santiago Carreras pulls the strings at fly half and Emiliano Boffelli is a ceaseless threat on the wing. But there is a relative newcomer to Cheika’s starting XV at Twickenham this weekend – and his face is a familiar one for many of the England squad.
