While embracing the joys of life at every age, it’s always fun to head to a salon for a pick-me-up from time to time. Classic cuts like a bob or pixie never go out of style, but what are the current hairstyle trends? And how can someone achieve them from the comfort of their own home? If you’re looking for inspiration, Express.co.uk spoke to Bellissima’s styling experts who revealed hairstyles from the 70s are making a comeback, and with some clever styling tools, they can easily be created for a more youthful look. A hairstylist with over 20 years of experience, Gorka Arraras and hair stylist, Hannah Karlsson revealed the latest trend dominating the hair industry. They said: ‘We’re seeing a lot of retro hairstyles from the 70s and 80s on the runways – these were everywhere during fashion weeks. ‘These include shag, wolf mullets as seen on Kristen Stewart during the Chanel fashion show in Paris, as well as the flicky waves a la Farrah Fawcett that have been taking over TikTok and fashion shows.70’s blow-out One of the most popular 70s hairstyles that have made a comeback is the blow-out, and it’s all about creating as much volume as possible, with a high-shine finish. The style features a long middle-parted mop with lots of layers. There any many benefits to layers, not only do they add interest to a hairstyle, but as women get older, hair starts to thin, and layers create the illusion of thicker, fuller hair. This is said to be an ‘incredibly flattering approach to layering and will complement women of all ages’. The 70s blow-out can be achieved with a hairdryer and a big barrel brush, but with the increased popularity of air wraps, creating this look has never been easier. Gorka and Hannah recommended the Bellissima 8-in-1 Air Wonder as ‘the ideal tool for experimenting and achieving fresh off-the-runway styles thanks to its great deal of accessories to cover all styling needs’.The Air wonder features a ‘single tool to dry and style all in one, for straight, curly, wavy or volumizing effects’.’The volumizing brush has been designed to create volume and give shape from roots to ends, in one step. The Bellissima stylists also shared the main hair concerns they are seeing women come into the salon with. ‘Post covid, a lot of our clients are suffering from hair loss,’ they explained. ‘We also have a lot of new mums who experience noticeable hair loss or hair shredding a few months after having a baby. ‘The other main hair concern women have is hair dryness and this can be a result of numerous factors. ‘One being as we get older and go through menopause our hair naturally becomes dryer due to hormonal changes.’Environmental factors such as hot weather, wind, and swimming in chlorinated or salty water can all lead to dryer hair too. ‘Thirdly, our hair care practices can also contribute to dry hair. This includes overwashing, using harsh shampoos, conditioners, or styling products and opting for hair tools that haven’t been designed to help protect the hair.’ For healthier hair, there are a few things that can be done; the Bellissima stylists advise regular haircuts to start: ‘For shorter hair where you want to keep the shape and style, around six weeks. If you want to grow your hair longer eight-12 weeks or when you see split ends appear.’ And when it comes to using stylist tools, it’s important to protect the hair from heat damage. Gorka and Hannah said: ‘Always use a heat-protecting product – the ingredients form a thin film on the hair’s surface that helps provide a thermal protectant. Also opting for the right hair tools is crucial!’
