England coach Simon Middleton happy to change XV for World Cup semi-final

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

England head coach Simon Middleton said he was prepared to make ‘brave’ selection calls after tweaking his XV for tomorrow’s World Cup semi-final against Canada.

Claudia MacDonald returns from injury to replace Lydia Thompson on the wing while Hannah Botterman comes in for the benched Vickii Cornborough at loosehead prop. Sarah Hunter, England’s most capped player, will lead the team from number eight at Auckland’s Eden Park with Emily Scarratt present at outside centre.

‘Continuity is an important factor in team selection,’ said Middleton, whose dominant team have won 29 Tests in a row.

‘Having said that, if you see an opportunity to improve or create different pictures that you believe could benefit the team’s performance, you have to be brave enough to make those calls.
