Rise in young illiberal progressives – Yips – who have little time for those with different opinions, says study
Today’s young people are less tolerant of alternative views than their parents or grandparents, a new study has claimed.
Conducted for Channel 4, the research found that there had been a rise in so-called young illiberal progressives – or Yips – who hold liberal social views but are not tolerant of dissenting opinions.
One in four respondents aged 13 to 24 said they had “very little tolerance for people with beliefs I disagree with”.
Almost one in two agreed with the statement that “some people deserved to be cancelled”, while just a third of over-25s expressed the same opinion.
