NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
The man accused of assaulting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer could be deported from the US after his criminal court case.
David DePape, 42, had been living in America for years with an expired immigration status before he sought to kidnap Pelosi and attacked her husband Paul, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said on Thursday.
DePape, who is Canadian, entered the US legally in March 2008 from Mexico by going going through a point of entry in San Ysidro, California, according to the DHS. Canadian visitors to the US for work or pleasure typically are allowed to stay for six months.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has launched an ‘immigration detainer’ on DePape. It requests that the San Francisco County Jail notify ICE before DePape is finished serving his sentence so that immigration officers can take him into custody.
